RingCentral Disabling TLS 1.0/1.1 and Ending Support for Android 4.4.x

Article
This article provides information about the deprecation of TLS version 1.0 and 1.1. In order to protect our customer's privacy, RingCentral will be rolling out a security update that are not compliant with the current industry standards. This will affect Users with connecting to RingCentral Admin Portal with browsers using TLS v1.0 / 1.1 and Users with android devices using versions before 4.4.

RingCentral will require TLS 1.2 and later encryption protocol beginning December 1, 2018, in an effort to maintain the highest security standards to protect customer privacy and align with industry standards. Browsers attempting to connect to RingCentral servers using a TLS v1.0 / 1.1 connection will be rejected. RingCentral will require TLS v1.2 and later encryption protocol beginning December 1, 2018.

You can go to this website to check if your browser supports TLS:

Updating to the latest version of your browser should enable support for TLS v1.2

For Android users, this means the following:

  • Earlier than 4.4.x (KitKat): Android versions older than 4.4 don’t support TLS 1.1/1/2 and therefore are no longer supported by the RingCentral mobile apps. Existing applications (RingCentral Phone, RingCentral app, and RingCentral Meetings) running on these devices will stop working when TLS 1.0/1.1 are disabled.
  • 4.4.x (KitKat): RingCentral Phone versions 8.1 and higher will continue to work on Android 4.4.x devices. Existing RingCentral Phone versions less than 8.1 (over two years old), RingCentral app, and RingCentral Meetings will stop working when TLS 1.0/1.1 are disabled.
  • 5.x (Lollipop) and later: Android versions 5.x and later support TLS 1.1/1.2 by default so existing applications (RingCentral Phone, RingCentral Meetings and the RingCentral app) will continue to work on these devices.

For security reasons, we advise all our Android users running Android 4.4.x and older to upgrade to the latest version of the Android operating system. Google officially stopped supporting Android 4.4.x over one year ago (October 2017) and no longer provides updates for this version of the operating system, including critical security fixes. In order to protect our Android users, RingCentral will stop support for Android 4.4.x in the 10.3 release.

NOTE: Unsupported browsers will be prevented from accessing the RingCentral online account. The user’s browser will display a standard browser connection error.
